About TMGS
the blessed year 2000, kristof janssens and gert Herrijgers have put up an old drum kit, a shook-up bass-amp and a four-stringed guitar. they're goofing off and playing around with old surf riffs and rhythms. when their good friend koen van loon passes by, the three decide to start a surf combo.
come a few years, kristof janssens has put up a ‘real’ band and a space to rehearse in. 'The Moe Greene Specials' come together in the old cinema rex. the atmosphere and old images of a long gone glory in film is all around… bandmembers come and go. when guitarist peter lodiers joins the band, the TMGS music finally falls into shape. In 2004, drummer tom raeymaekers joins TMGS, and a definite line-up is set.
2005, TMGS record their self-titled debut album, released on green cookie records. it gets very positive reviews, and is defined as a topnotch ride in modern spaghetti western music.
In 2006, bart raats, a 2nd trumpet player, joins the band. immediately, he takes TMGS to another musical level. TMGS start working on new songs and decide to add vocals to the music.
Now, 2007, TMGS release open road (again) on sonic rendezvous records.
recorded, mixed & mastered by Patrick Delabie at studio 195, Holland, November 2004
“The MOE GREENE SPECIALS play a seriously moody and dramatic form of spaghetti western, with multiple guitars that create a thick wash of sound, and bass and drums, and accompanied by horns that add to the Morricone experience. This album is really fit for a film score. ”Phil Dirt - Reverb Central [ USA ]
It’s certainly the best spaghetti western album that Enrio Morricone never made and, to my ears at least, better than any of the albums hi did make. This is because it is intended for listening to rather than as an accompaniment to pictures. If you have any spagwest albums you certainly need this one too. If you ever fancied trying one and weren’t sure where to start, then this is the place. Ok hombre? Alan Taylor – Pipeline magazine [ UK ]
